The bracket for the tournament to crown the inaugural TBS Women’s Champion has been unveiled by AEW.

AEW’s women division has been heating up recently and has only gotten more exciting with the announcement of the TBS Women’s Championship. The second television championship the company has introduced, the new blue and gold belt will help keep the women’s momentum going into the future.

AEW announced last week that the first TBS Women’s Champion would be crowned via a tournament, and the bracket for that tournament was revealed on Friday night’s episode of AEW Rampage.

The tournament will highlight twelve extremely talented women on the AEW roster. Every woman in the tournament has been in the AEW power rankings for the women’s division recently, with the exception of Dr. Britt Baker, DMD, the current AEW Women’s World Champion, and Tay Conti, Baker’s assumed opponent for Full Gear.

The tournament is stacked with talent

In the tournament, there are four first-round matches, which will represent payoffs for some recent rivalries.

Anna Jay, a friend of Tay Conti, and Jamie Hayter, a friend of Britt Baker, will meet in the first round. This likely will be an opportunity to kick off the Baker-Conti rivalry that will pay off at Full gear. It will also give Hayter and Jay a chance to show off just how good they both are.

Hikaru Shida and Serena Deeb had a fantastic match two weeks ago on Dynamite. That match was built on Shida potentially getting her fiftieth win in AEW, but that was spoiled by Deeb, who not only beat Hikaru Shida but also assaulted her after the match. This match will be violent, but excellent, and can showcase the raw talent of these women.

Penelope Ford and Ruby Soho are currently locked in a rivalry, after Ford and her friend, The Bunny, assaulted her on last week’s episode of Rampage. Soho, the newest woman in AEW, has been riding fan hype since her debut at AEW All Out, and will likely try to pull on that to get past Ford.

Finally, The Bunny will clash with Red Velvet. This match is the only first-round match that has not been built for weeks, but it has huge implications. Red Velvet winning this match would result in a rematch with Jade Cargill, which is a big deal. The Bunny winning this match would see Jade Cargill finally face off against the Hardy Family Office, a faction she refused to sign with earlier this year.

There are four more women in the tournament getting first-round byes. Thunder Rosa, Jade Cargill, Nyla Rose, and Kris Statlander are all towards the top of the women’s power rankings and have been rewarded with favorable tournament positioning.

This tournament kicks off Saturday on AEW Dynamite and will take play out over the next month.
