Atlanta Braves outfielder Jorge Soler becomes the first player to lead off the World Series with a home run against the Houston Astros.

The Braves started out the World Series in style, as Soler hit a home run off Framber Valdez to give Atlanta a 1-0 lead.

Soler was acquired by the Braves at the trade deadline from the Kansas City Royals, and the powerful outfielder showed why Alex Anthopoulos made him such a high priority, despite the fact that he was hurt when he was dealt.

How many players have led off World Series with a home run?

Per baseball-reference, Soler is the only player to lead off the World Series with that sort of impact.

Austin Riley would put the Braves up 2-0 early with another RBI base hit, making Astros fans unhappy from the first pitch.

Anthopoulos’ trades were among the major storylines at the deadline, as the Braves had to make up for the loss of Ronald Acuña and Marcell Ozuna, both of whom were All-Stars last year.

Where is Jorge Soler from?

Soler is from Havana, Cuba, becoming one of just a few Cuban-born MLB players.

How tall is Jorge Soler?

Soler is a tall 6-foot-4, making him a physical presence in the Braves locker room as well.
