Michigan football star Blake Corum used NIL money for Thanksgiving good deed

Michigan Wolverines running back Blake Corum used his NIL money to purchase Thanksgiving turkeys for Ypsilanti communities.

The Michigan Wolverines have a huge game coming up next weekend. They will face the Ohio State Buckeyes for the chance to compete in the Big Ten championship game and potentially a College Football Playoff berth. Ahead of the game, sophomore running back Blake Corum decided to help in the community.

Corum used his NIL (name, image and likeness) money to purchase 100 turkeys to hand out to families in two Ypsilanti communities for Thanksgiving.

The “Give Back 2 Give Thanks” event took place on Sunday.

“I’ve always given back, whether it’s a football camp or small things,” Corum said, via Angelique S. Chengelis of the Detroit News. “I’ve always invested in giving back to my community and trying to get the next generation to live out their dreams. Thanksgiving was coming along, NIL is going really good, and I told my Dad (James), ‘I’m going to buy 100 turkeys.’”

Corum, his father James, and teammate Nikhai Hill-Green were distributing meals among others. In addition to the 100 turkeys, local charitable organizations matched the donation while also handing out additional Thanksgiving food, such as mashed potatoes, milk, macaroni and cheese and canned goods.

This season, Corum accumulated 778 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on 130 carries, while catching 20 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown. He had missed the past two games due to a high-ankle sprain.
