There are reportedly eight teams in the running to sign free agent pitcher Steven Matz.

The MLB hot stove season is not off to the slow start like many have expected. One of the top pitchers on the market, Justin Verlander, re-signed with the Houston Astros on a one-year contract that includes an option for 2023. But there may be another pitcher to come off the market.

Earlier on Monday, MLB.com insider Mark Feinsand reported that left-handed pitcher Steven Matz would be making his decision on Wednesday. As for the teams that are in the market for him, MLB Network insider Jon Heyman says that there are eight teams in play for Matz.

Those teams include the Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Angeles, and his former teams in the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets.

A plethora of options for Matz, but the two most intriguing will undoubtedly be the Mets and the Blue Jays.

New York is in the market for starting pitching with Noah Syndergaard signing a one-year deal with the Angels and Marcus Stroman a free agent. Bringing back Matz could be an option for the Mets, whom they are familiar with. Matz made his MLB debut with the Mets and spent six years with the team. The left-hander recorded a 4.35 ERA, a 1.320 WHIP and a 31-41 record.

Matz was traded by the Mets to the Blue Jays last offseason. In 29 starts with the Blue Jays this past season, Matz recorded a 3.82 ERA, a 1.334 WHIP and 144 strikeouts over 150.2 innings of work. The Blue Jays just re-signed Jose Berrios to a multi-year deal contract and AL Cy Young winner Robbie Ray is a free agent. It will be interesting to see if the Blue Jays can bring one or both of Ray and Matz back.

For you MLB fans clamoring for some signings, keep your eyes peeled for some Steven Matz news on Wednesday.
