The Pittsburgh Steelers’ abysmal display against the Kansas City Chiefs is the new normal. It’s not the first time the Steelers’ offense has underperformed in a big moment.

But will it be the last this season?

The Steelers offense is awful. I mean really, really bad. So, what’s to be done about it? Sure, a lot of the blame falls on the personnel, and the fact that the Steelers are relying on an aging version of Ben Roethlisberger. The offensive line is young and — as currently constructed — abysmal.

However, Matt Canada’s scheming and lack of awareness week after week has gotten national attention, not just from fans but commentators.

His performance against the Chiefs on Sunday afternoon should be his last.

Steelers must fire Matt Canada and here’s why

The Steelers have failed to find a capable offensive coordinator since the days of Bruce Arians and Todd Haley (depending on who you ask). Few fans truly like the OC. It’s a tough job.

Yet, picking from the Randy Fichtner coaching tree was an odd choice to begin with.

The following stats should enrage Steelers fans, and influence Kevin Colbert to make a tough decision at the end of the season.

  • Ray-Ray McCloud was second on the team with eight targets against the Chiefs. At one point, he had a significant edge in that statistic. McCloud is a special teams ace, and nothing more. Yet, he’s targeted week after week by Canada and Roethlisberger. Find someone who loves you like Canada loves McCloud for Valentines Day.
  • The Steelers have been help without a first-half touchdown for five straight games. It’s the first time that’s happened since 1940.
  • The Steelers have been outscored 114-19 in the first half of their last six games. That’s just over a field goal per half by the offense.

I could dig deeper, but should I have to?

The Steelers are a mess, and Canada is hardly the only problem. But he’s definitely a problem, and one with an easy solution.
