Former Ohio State players react to Buckeyes’ Rose Bowl comeback vs. Utah
By Scott Rogust
Ohio State alum reacted to the Buckeyes’ epic 48-45 Rose Bowl win over the Utah Utes.
What a two days for the Ohio State Buckeyes. They watched their rivals in the Michigan Wolverines get stomped by the Georgia Bulldogs in the Orange Bowl on New Year’s Eve. Then, on New Years Day, they walked into the Rose Bowl and participated in an all-time classic against the Utah Utes.
After trailing 35-21 at halftime, Ohio State bounced back to earn a 48-45 win over Utah. Buckeyes fans were psyched about the win, and so were alum, like Michael Thomas, J.K. Dobbins, Parris Campbell and more.

In addition to alum, Haskell Garrett and Garrett Wilson shared their thoughts for the game. Both players opted out of the Rose Bowl, as they declared for the 2022 NFL Draft.

With the team facing a two-touchdown deficit to the Utes, quarterback C.J. Stroud stepped up to lead the comeback attempt. The Heisman finalist hit Marvin Harrison Jr. for two touchdowns, and then hit Jaxon Smith-Njigba for the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter to take the 45-38 lead. After Utah tied things up, Ohio State worked their way downfield to set up the game-winning field goal by Noah Ruggles.
Stroud threw for 573 touchdowns, six touchdowns and one interception while completing 37-of-46 pass attempts. Smith-Njigba caught 15-of-16 targets for 347 yards and three touchdowns.
The Buckeyes may have missed out on the Playoff, but they end their season on a high note with an epic Rose Bowl win.
