The Giants waited one day after Black Monday but made the decision to fire Joe Judge, a choice that fans and Twitter at large erupted over.
On the heels of a 4-13 season from the New York Giants, fans and analysts assumed that Joe Judge would be a casualty of Black Monday with coaches throughout the league getting axed. After all, this was a man who called a QB sneak on third-and-9 in the team’s final game of the regular season.
Alas, that wasn’t the case and it seemed as if New York was stubbornly set to continue into the third season with their head coach. However, for whatever reason, they were apparently just waiting a day.
The Giants announced on Tuesday that they had relieved Joe Judge of his duties and that the franchise would be now searching for a new head coach and general manager, the latter after Dave Gettleman announced his retirement.
Joe Judge fired by Giants: Twitter reacts to huge news in New York
As you’d probably expect, Twitter was both relieved and not surprised at the news out of the Big Apple.
I wanted to see Joe Judge return. He was a major contributor to the unintentional comedy of the NFL.

John Mara and Steve Tisch had no choice. Joe Judge gave them no choice. He fired himself. https://t.co/KTI0T6p4R3

Firing Joe Judge was the only sensible thing after "retiring" Dave Gettleman and after the final two weeks of the season featured a bizarre 11 min, lie-filled response to a press conference question and a QB sneak on third and nine.

Otherwise your GM candidate pool is tiny.
Congrats Giants, you’re free from the stupid decisions and fake toughness of Joe Judge. New York deserves good football! pic.twitter.com/2PdJ9P9hZi

To punish himself, Judge will do wind sprints all the way home from MetLife Stadium. https://t.co/jMPQ8FO3Vf

Judge posting a 10-23 record over his two seasons with the G-Men was enough of a reason for him to be on a hot seat. However, the consistently questionable decision-making, the “tough guy” routine that he trotted out often, and so much more made it an obvious choice.
The Giants are not a good roster right now but, at the same time, Judge wasn’t the man to take any steps forward. Now, the organization will be looking for the right guy to do just that.
