The Kansas City Chiefs got a promising addition to the offense for Sunday night’s matchup with the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round.

The Chiefs are expected to welcome back running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire on Sunday as they take on the Bills, as the LSU product returned to practice this week and doesn’t have an injury designation as of Friday. CEH was dealing with a shoulder issue as recently as last week.

Andy Reid didn’t go as far as guaranteeing Edwards-Helaire would play, as he made that mistake last week, but his comments seem like a good sign.

“I felt comfortable with (Edwards-Helaire) practicing today, and he did practice full speed and all that,” Reid said, via Charles Goldman of USA Today. “Listen, I’m still recovering from telling you guys he was going to play last week, so I’m not going to say anything until the fish is in the boat.”

Chiefs: Clyde Edwards-Helaire likely to play

Edwards-Helaire’s return comes at the perfect time, with Darrel Williams dealing with some injury problems of his own. He has a toe injury after playing just eight snaps last week, and was questionable heading into Friday.

“He (Williams) moved around well today, but let me see how he does,” Reid said. “He only practiced today, so we’ll see how he does here in the next day, see where he’s at.”

If Williams cannot play, that means the majority of the running back workload will go to Edwards-Helaire and Jerick McKinnon, who has been an outstanding find for the Chiefs late in the season. McKinnon offers a change of pace approach, as well as the ability to make plays in the passing game.

That factor had been somewhat missing from the Chiefs offense since CEH went out. Expect the Kansas City offense to feature both backs heavily this coming Sunday.
