Evan McPherson sends Bengals to Super Bowl 56 with overtime field goal

In the first half of the AFC Championship Game, it felt as though the Chiefs were going to coast to victory, as they held a 21-10 lead at halftime. But the Bengals showed up on both sides of the football. They did the impossible, and that was limit Mahomes to just three points in the entire second half.

The Bengals tied things up at 21 points apiece after McPherson kicked a 31-yard field goal and quarterback Joe Burrow connected with Ja’Marr Chase in the end zone on a two-yard touchdown and a successful two-point conversion. Then, McPherson made a 52-yard field goal attempt to give them a 24-21 lead.

Even though the Chiefs made it to the red zone in the closing seconds of regulation, the Bengals defense stuffed them, forcing them to kick a field goal to send it to overtime. Kansas City may have won the coin toss, but Mahomes’ pass was intercepted by safety Vonn Bell.  The offense gave McPherson perfect field position, and he made it.

McPherson is only in his first season an he is already a Bengals legend.
