College baseball rankings 2022: Texas takes top spot in preseason top 25

The Texas Longhorns are looking to put an end to their title drought. They’re one of the best teams in college baseball this season. Can they do it?

As college baseball gets set to begin, there’s one blue blood that is looking to end a title drought. The Texas Longhorns haven’t been able to break through and win the College World Series in nearly two decades, but this team might just have the talent to do it.

While the Mississippi State Bulldogs beat the Longhorns twice in Omaha and three times overall last season, Texas squeaks past Mississippi State to sit at No. 1 in the FanSided Top 25 preseason rankings.

College baseball rankings: Texas Longhorns take top spot in preseason Top 25

The Longhorns have a roster loaded with talent and have some particularly great pitchers ready to go this season. They weren’t able to get past Mississippi State a year ago, but those College World Series matchups between Texas and Mississippi State were arguably the most entertaining games to watch out of everything that happened in Omaha in 2021.

Mississippi State may have won the College World Series last season, but it’s really hard to repeat. It’s worth watching to see if the Bulldogs will find a way to win a championship again. It’s also a good idea to keep an eye on the Longhorns this season and see if they’re able to live up to their potential.

Of course, there are a number of other teams who have championship aspirations and the talent to get there. Teams like Vanderbilt, LSU, and Arkansas always seem to be in the mix in any given season.
