Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young visited Madison Square Garden and put up an historic performance against the New York Knicks.

In the opening round of the 2021 NBA Playoffs, New York Knicks fans found their new Reggie Miller in the form of Trae Young. The Atlanta Hawks star ripped apart the hearts of Knicks fans with made shot after made shot and telling the Madison Square Garden crowd to be quiet.

On Tuesday night, less than a year later, Young and the Hawks visited New York City again to take on the Knicks, and he continued to torture the team and fanbase. Atlanta pulled out 117-111 victory, thanks in part to 45 points by Young.

There was a lot that happened on Tuesday night that will be added to the “Trae Young versus the Knicks” highlight reel. In the very beginning of the game, Knicks fans rained down boos on Young, who immediately responded with a made three-pointer. Then, the made shot after a full-court pass from Boban Bogdanovic in the closing seconds of the first quarter.

Finally, and perhaps the biggest gut punch for Knicks fans, Young crossing up Taj Gibson and making an uncontested late in the fourth quarter.

After the game, Young provided some comments that are the equivalent of salt being poured in he wounds of Knicks fans. He said he loved playing in the Garden because of the “bright lights” and said he did not hear any of the boos from those in attendance.

This was a historic performance for Young, as his 45 points were tied for the most points scored at Madison Square Garden by a Hawks player in franchise history. The other player to do so was Dominique Wilkins, who did so back in 1988.

Young made his 45 points while shooting 13-for-25 from the field and 7-for-15 from the three-point line. Additionally, Young recorded eight assists, one rebound and one steal.

Young once again visited Madison Square Garden and made it his home with yet another strong showing.
