Detroit Tigers analyst Jack Morris made an ill-timed joke after hearing an injury update regarding pitcher Matt Manning.

The Detroit Tigers already received bad news heading into Saturday, Apr. 16, as shortstop Javier Baez and pitcher Casey Mize were each placed on the 10-day injured list due to right thumb soreness and an elbow sprain, respectively. During their game against the Kansas City Royals on that day, fans saw starting pitcher Matt Manning leave after the second inning due to injury.

During the Bally Sports Detroit broadcast, an injury update revealed that Manning left due to right shoulder discomfort. Seconds later, analyst and former Tigers pitcher Jack Morris decided it was the right time to make a joke.

Morris said, “I guess I can leave, I’ve had right shoulder discomfort for about 20 years.”

This is not the first time that Morris’ comments caught the viewing audience’s attention for the wrong reasons.

During a Tigers-Los Angeles Angels game last season, Morris used a mock Asian accent when talking about Shohei Ohtani. Morris apologized for the comments and was suspended indefinitely by Bally Sports Detroit. Morris’ suspension lasted 23-days.

It will remain to be seen if Manning will have to miss much time due to his injury. Manning threw 38 pitches through his two innings of work, where he surrendered one earned run on five hits and struck out two batters.

The Royals defeated the Tigers 3-1 on Saturday.
