Marshawn Lynch becomes part owner of Seattle Kraken

Former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch is now an owner of an NHL team.

Marshawn Lynch and rapper Macklemore just became part-owners of the NHL’s Seattle Kraken.

Lynch who played seven seasons with the Seahawks and won a Super Bowl with them, and Grammy award winner Macklemore both expressed interest in the Kraken last summer, according to CNBC. The deal went through this month.

In a statement released by Lynch to CNBC, he expressed his excitement about being a part of the organization.

“This is something I never would have imagined,” Lynch said in a statement. “I always dreamed of playing on a professional team but owning one is something special. As I look back on some of my accomplishments — I retired before I was 30 and now being an owner of a professional club at the age of 35 – I’m gonna continue to count my blessings.”

Marshawn Lynch will be active in the NHL as Kraken owner

According to NHL.com, Lynch will not be a silent partner but he will be actively involved in the organization.  Lynch will be a part of Seattle’s campaign, “Hockey is For Everyone” and work on events centered on young people and the community.

Lynch is known for his community service. in 2016 he formed Fam1st Family Foundation. A foundation geared toward giving back to the community.

Lynch has also expressed interest in shadowing Kraken CEO Tod Leiweke in the CNBC report.

“He’s intrigued with the idea of what’s it’s like to be an owner and the business side and the financing,” Leiweke said.

Lynch and Macklemore will be in attendance for the Krakens game against the Ottawa Senators on Monday night to celebrate, per NHL.com
