The Nathan’s Hot Dog eating contest is one of the highlights of July 4th and there are people who come from all over the world to compete and watch the American tradition.
But how much does it actually cost to watch the contest in person?
The whole thing takes place on Cooney Island at 10 a.m. with all kinds of events to build up the excitement. To watch, it’s free. But you are encouraged to get there super early as it gets filled up fast and there’s only so much room to watch.

You can also watch on ESPN at 10:45 a.m. ET. John Anderson will be giving play-by-play commentary, which means this is the real deal.
In case you are not familiar with the event, TSG broke down the rules in an easy-to-understand format:
- Simple rules govern the competition including competitors competing to consume the maximum number of hot dogs on buns in 10 minutes.
- Although permitted, condiments are not typically used.
- You are ineligible if you vomit.
- Whosoever ate the maximum number of Hot dogs will be titled the winner of the contest.
