Is mail delivered on 4th of July?

It seems like the United States Post Office is always closed these days. With the service struggling there have been offices closing early and opening later and some even shutting their doors. Most people are using Amazon these days, who use their own delivery people.

But, you might be expecting something from the USPS and are wondering if you’ll be able to count July 4th as a potential delivery day.

USPS hours: Is the post office open or closed on Fourth of July 2022?

Unfortunately, you can’t.

The post office is closed on most American holidays, as listed below.

  • New Year’s Day
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • Presidents’ Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Juneteenth
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Columbus Day
  • Veterans Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

They are also closed on Sundays every day of the year.

There are some glimmers of hope though. Many locations have self-service machines you can use if you need to ship something. You can print the labels, pay the postage and drop them off without the open post office. Check your local office to see if they have that service.

You can also buy stamps at the machine or your local grocery store if need be.

You won’t be able to get money orders or passport services but there might be other non-USPS locations that can do those things for you.
