One stat capturing Week 1 performances from every team in the NFL paints the Dallas Cowboys in a very depressing light.

Week 1 for the Dallas Cowboys can only be described with one word: Depressing.

The Cowboys walked in optimistically hoping to take down Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football, and left with a loss and only three points on the board.

Plus, Dak Prescott went down with a thumb injury that will require surgery and, despite some recent optimism, will likely put him out for 6-8 weeks.

Pretty much the worst-case scenario for Week 1 for the Cowboys, who were already riding some negative momentum with a significant blow to their offensive line just before the season, as left tackle Tyron Smith fractured his knee.

The Dallas Cowboys were the sole team to not score a touchdown in Week 1 of the NFL season

Take your pick of any stat and the Cowboys are probably near-worst after the first slate of games. First downs? Dead last at 12. Total offense? Third-worst with 244 yards. Penalties? 10 on Sunday, fifth-worst in the NFL.

But the game is about scoring touchdowns. And the Cowboys were the sole team in the league to not get in the end zone in their Week 1 matchup.

Yikes. That’s bad.

Even the Packers, who had a horrible Sunday compared to expectations, put a touchdown on the board.

Interestingly, the last time the Cowboys failed to get in the end zone in the opening week of a season was in 2001 at home against none other than the Buccaneers. Dallas went 5-11 that season and no quarterback threw for more than 5 touchdowns. Quincy Carter was their leading passer that season in yardage.

Things are looking bad for America’s Team, and unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like there’s any hope on the horizon.
