Alabama football head coach Nick Saban is gathering more information about videos allegedly showing Jermaine Burton hitting a Tennessee fan.

As if losing to Tennessee on Saturday wasn’t troubling enough, Nick Saban is now having to deal with concerning allegations against one of his top receiving threats.

Multiple Tennessee fans are claiming wide receiver Jermaine Burton hit them as he was coming off the field at Neyland Stadium.

Two videos have been posted on TikTok purporting to show Burton striking the fans, including a female Tennessee fan.

How Nick Saban responded to allegations against Jermaine Burton

On Wednesday, Saban confirmed that Alabama is looking into the incident.

“We are aware of the situation with Jermaine Burton as he was exiting the field Saturday. We are currently working to gather more information,” Saban told reporters.

It’s not clear what kind of punishment Burton could face, whether internally from Alabama or from external sources.

The SEC fines programs when fans rush the field because it carries so many safety hazards for players and fans alike. However, the fact that the fans weren’t supposed to be there isn’t a good enough reason to let Burton off the hook. Having a player put hands on a fan is certainly not something college football should take lightly.

In 2017, a USC player who shoved a Washington State fan who rushed the field actually faced the prospect of assault charges. However, the local prosecutor’s office ultimately decided not to go ahead with the case. He did face internal punishment.

Burton has 18 catches for 266 yards and three touchdowns so far this season. He transferred to Alabama from Georgia this year.
