The Chicago Bears have had a rough season, but Justin Fields is emerging as a talented player as he beat out some of the NFL’s best running backs.

The Chicago Bears don’t appear to have much potential this season as they sit dead last in the NFC North standings with a tough 3-10 record. Justin Fields has remained their starting quarterback this year, and while he struggled early this season, he’s rapidly developed into one of the league’s most dazzling quarterbacks, particularly in Week 13.

In Week 13 against the Green Bay Packers, Fields rushed for an incredible 56-yard touchdown, beating out some of the NFL’s best running backs in the process.

He now leads the league in 50-yard touchdowns this season with three, which is more than Tony Pollard, Dalvin Cook and Kenneth Walker III each have on the year. That means Fields has the most of 50+ yard rushing touchdowns in the NFL, and he continues to make history as he realizes his potential. Recently, he’s been comparable to Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes, two of the best quarterbacks in the league, as he’s passed Mahomes in most touchdowns since Week 9 and is just one rushing touchdown behind Hurts this season.

Fields is also the only NFL quarterback over the past 70 years with three rushing touchdowns of 50+ yards in his career, according to ESPN Fantasy Sports.

Bears quarterback Justin Fields is beating some of the NFL’s best players at their own game

Compared to last year’s limited starts, Fields is finally coming into his own and embracing his role as the leader of the Bears offense. As Fields recently pointed out though, their defense has been struggling, which means that the Bears have lost high-scoring games that were within reach. While it’s frustrating to see the Bears losing yet again, Fields has inspired hope in the hearts of Chicago fans. Finally, the Bears have themselves a true franchise quarterback.

Over his past five games, he’s had a completion percentage of 64.6, an average of seven yards per pass and nine touchdowns. In the five games prior, he had a completion percentage of 56.8, an average of 7.5 yards per pass and just two touchdowns. While his yards per pass remained nearly the same, the other areas faced a significant improvement, proving he’s on the right path forward.

He was thought to be approaching a breakout season this season by Josh Schrock of NBC Sports Chicago because of his performance at the end of the 2021 season, and unfortunately, his breakout hasn’t resulted in the wins that the Bears should have logged.

His potential is very telling, and it’s impressive that he’s able to produce results comparable to some of the bests in the league.
