Aaron Judge got a massive deal to return to the New York Yankees. How does it compare to quarterback salaries in the NFL?

After a dramatic reporting cycle that first indicated Aaron Judge’s new deal would be with the San Francisco Giants, Aaron Judge returned to the New York Yankees. To get him to stay in free agency, the Yankees had to offer Judge a significant contract.

Judge got a nine-year, $360 million deal from New York. It averages out to $40 million per year. He reportedly got a similar offer in AAV from the San Diego Padres with an extra year tacked onto the end.

How many NFL quarterbacks make as much or more than Aaron Judge?

Currently, nine NFL quarterbacks match or beat Judge’s salary in terms of average yearly dollars. Let’s look at each of them.

First pointed out by Andrew Grover, the QBs are as follows:

  1. Aaron Rodgers — $50.271 million
  2. Russell Wilson — $49 million
  3. Kyler Murray — $46.1 million
  4. Deshaun Watson — $46 million
  5. Patrick Mahomes — $45 million
  6. Josh Allen — $43 million
  7. Derek Carr — $40.474 million
  8. Matthew Stafford — $40 million
  9. Dak Prescott — $40 million

In total dollars, here are the only current contracts that, when signed by the quarterbacks, valued at a total higher than $360 million:

  1. Patrick Mahomes — $450 million

Yes, that’s it.

Judge beats out each of the above-named players in total value simply because of the length of the deal. It’s customary for contract lengths in the MLB to be longer than they are in the NBA, NFL, and other sports leagues, part of the reason being baseball lends itself to longer careers.

Patrick Mahomes deal also impressively beats Judge in the length department at a full 10 years.

It honestly makes the Mahomes deal look even more impressive. It’s essentially a baseball contract given out to a football player.

At the end of the day, Judge and every player on this list pretty much have it made. We’re just comparing the uber rich to the uberer rich.
