WWE will hold two 30-person battle royals at the Royal Rumble premium live event, with the winners receiving championship matches at WrestleMania. Here are the rules for the match.

Every January, WWE holds their premium live event, the Royal Rumble. This year, it takes place on Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

The main attractions for the event are the Royal Rumble matches. There are two of these battle royals set for the show — one featuring 30 men and the other featuring 30 women. These matches carry huge implications, as the winners will receive a world championship match at WrestleMania 39 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. on Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2.

For those who are unsure as to what the rules are for the match, we have you covered.

WWE Royal Rumble match rules, explained

For each match, two competitors who drew the No. 1 and 2 will begin. From there a new participant enters every 90 seconds, which will be indicated by a countdown clock and a buzzer. This will continue until all 30 participants enter the match.

Now, how does one win the Royal Rumble? It’s rather simple. They have to be the last person standing in the ring to earn their title shot at WrestleMania. In order to do so, they will need to eliminate their fellow competitors. The only way to do so is to throw their opponent over the top rope and ensuring that both feet hit the ringside floor.

That’s right, so a competitor can not be eliminated from the match if they are thrown through the middle rope or underneath the bottom rope. It has to be over the top rope and both feet hitting the floor. One foot can hit the ringside floor, as can two hands. If that happens, a competitor is still in the match. But once two feet touch the floor, the competitor is eliminated.

There you have it. To win the Royal Rumble match, all 29 competitors must be thrown over the top rope with both of their feet touching the floor. The last person standing will head to WrestleMania for a world championship match.
