3. Best Free Agent Fits For Jimmy Garoppolo – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers find themselves in a tricky spot after Tom Brady’s retirement. The addition of TB12 did pay off with a Super Bowl title and three straight playoff appearances, but the team’s win-now core has aged quickly.

There are two paths forward for GM Jason Licht, who has a huge salary cap mess to clean up in the coming weeks: blow up the roster now and start a rebuilding process or shift money around to make another run with this core. The latter option is very appealing with the weakness of the NFC South so adding a quarterback like Garoppolo would be Tampa Bay’s best chance to win their third straight NFC South title.

The fit isn’t perfect with the Buccaneers since new offensive coordinator Dave Canales comes from Seattle, which ran a much more vertical attack than the one Garoppolo has operated over the past few years. The weapons that Tampa Bay has are some of the best in the league as Mike Evans and Chris Godwin are one of the best wide receiving tandems around.

The tricky part here for a Garoppolo deal would be making the salary cap hit work. There is a bit of desperation from Tampa Bay here, however, as they only have Kyle Trask under contract in the quarterback room and are picking far too low in the draft to try and land one of the top prospects on the board.
