Angels infielder Anthony Rendon was caught on camera trying to slap a fan after an Opening Day loss against the Oakland Athletics.

Los Angeles Angels’ Anthony Rendon could be in hot water after a video of his hostile altercation with a fan surfaced on Twitter.

In the video, Rendon grabbed an A’s fan by the shirt above the dugout after the fan allegedly yelled at him and called him a “b***h.” Rendon curses him out while the fan shakes his head and denies the accusation; at the end, Rendon reaches up to take a swipe at the fan and misses.

You can see Rendon’s teammates walk by Rendon during the little skirmish, none of whom thought it was necessary to break up the fight and restrain Rendon.

Rendon’s outburst came after the Angels suffered a 2-1 loss to the Athletics in their first game of the season.

It was a fairly laidback game that nonetheless causes early concerns for an Angels roster stacked with talent. Superstar Shohei Ohtani a.k.a. Tungsten Arm O’Doyle had a typically incredible performance on the mound, throwing six shutout innings and striking out 10 batters.

Yet Los Angeles disappointed in 2022 despite Ohtani’s and Mike Trout’s brilliance, and after one game of 2023 season, it seems like not much has changed. The Angels’ offense couldn’t produce anything with a lot of swings and misses from Rendon (including his post-game jab at a fan) and the club’s bullpen ultimately fumbled the bag in the eighth inning.

In the wake of Rendon’s viral video, the Angels said they currently have no comment, but that Rendon is expected to address the incident tomorrow. No word yet on any potential disciplinary actions from the league.
