NASCAR’s Craftsman Truck Series raced at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday afternoon. Who took home the trophy?

The NASCAR Truck Series took on Texas Motor Speedway this weekend while the Xfinity Series and Cup Series is in Richmond, Virginia.

Entering the day, Nick Sanchez earned the pole, the second of his career in what will be just his fifth start. Jack Wood, Ty Majeski, Corey Heim and Carson Hocevar rounded out the top five on the starting grid.

Stewart Friesen, last year’s winner at this event, was able to qualify seventh. No Cup or Xfinity regulars were in the lineup since both series are at different tracks this weekend.

NASCAR Truck Series: Carson Hocevar pulls off first career victory in shocking fashion

This race started off strong, but ended in an all-out caution fest. Nick Sanchez dominated the day, winning both stages and leading the vast majority of the laps. On the final lap, he wrecked with Zane Smith, who had been running second. Since 20-year-old Carson Hocevar was in third when they wrecked, he was able to swipe the lead and was out front when the caution flag flew, winning the race.

When a caution flag comes out on the last lap, the race automatically ends. This time, Hocevar was on the right side of such a finish. After coming close so many times before, he was finally able to secure his first victory in the 58th start of his Truck Series career.

Earlier in the final stage, Dean Thompson, Matt Mills and Trey Hutchens were involved in a violent wreck. Thompson, who had been running strong all day, needed to be placed on a stretcher and was immediately taken to a local hospital.

Thompson, 21, had the NASCAR world holding its collective breath. He sent out a tweet letting everyone know that he was doing fine.
