A New York sports radio host claims the San Francisco 49ers are looming if the Jets can’t trade for Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Ever heard of Craig Carton? Well, you have now.

Carton has a show on FS1 and is a New York sports radio host. That’s about all you need to know for this story to make sense.

With the New York Jets and Green Bay Packers at a bit of a stalemate in Aaron Rodgers trade talks, Carton believes another team is waiting in the wings to jump in on the Jets failure — the San Francisco 49ers.

As Carton mentions, Trey Lance and Brock Purdy are both coming off injuries. San Francisco did sign Sam Darnold, but he’s hardly the caliber of Rodgers.

While the 49ers do make sense as a Rodgers trade destination, creating drama out of thin air is classic sports radio drama, and Carton is at it again here.

NFL Rumors: Could the 49ers trade for Packers QB Aaron Rodgers?

Of course the 49ers could trade for Aaron Rodgers, but for that to happen, talks with the New York Jets need to break down. That hasn’t happened yet, and while the Packers are holding out for a first-round pick or something similar, neither side is ready to bail.

The waiting game is on, but the Packers are operating as if Rodgers is already gone. As for the Jets, they’ve already negotiated contracts with Allen Lazard potentially Randall Cobb. Odell Beckham Jr. is interested as well. It sure sounds like Rodgers is a New Yorker.

Whether it’s before the NFL Draft or just prior to when Rodgers bonus kicks in, eventually this will be a done deal. For Green Bay to renege and deal Rodgers to San Francisco — a destination he has yet to approve — would be a shocking maneuver to say the least.

For now, it’s not based in reality.
