The 49ers are shopping quarterback Trey Lance, and the Houston Texans could make things really interesting during the 2023 NFL Draft

Just one week left, football fans, and the 2023 NFL Draft will be upon us. That means one heck of a night for the Houston Texans and plenty of continued rumors leading up to it.

Houston owns two first-round picks, one at No. 2 and the other coming at No. 12 overall. The opportunities could be endless at either selection, but another big move that could shake things up is if the organization decided to make a trade for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance.

Wednesday, it was announced the 49ers were taking calls on trades for the former No. 3 overall pick.

Obviously, at No. 2, the team could take one of the top quarterbacks in this class. But, ESPN’s Adam Schefter recently said he doesn’t believe Houston will draft a quarterback at that pick. So, what would it take if Houston wanted to upgrade from Davis Mills and put some stock into Lance?

According to a rumor that came about just a few days before Lance was officially being shopped, one media member believes all it would take to get a deal done is two second-round picks. That seems like somewhat of a low price, especially considering the haul San Francisco had to move in order to go up and get Lance.

3. The Texans give San Francisco close to what they want for Trey Lance

Because the Texans own the second pick in the second round, they first send their third-rounder to San Francisco instead. That pick comes in at no. 65 overall. From there, the 49ers then get a second-rounder in 2024 from Houston.

You could essentially call this a late second-round pick along with a future second-rounder, and one would think the 49ers entertain an offer like this, but we’ll see.

If that’s not enough for the Niners, then Houston could up the ante just a little bit while also keeping it creative.
