The Knicks playoff history is rich but has been unfortunate of late. When was the last time New York won an NBA Championship though?

When you think of the NBA, the New York Knicks are one of the first teams that come to mind whether you’re a fan or not. They are one of the most historic franchises playing in one of the most historic venues, Madison Square Garden, and have one of the richest histories in basketball.

So as they are in the NBA Playoffs once again, fans are hoping that the Knicks can make some magic happen. Unfortunately, though, there hasn’t been a lot of magic in the postseason for this franchise, especially of late.

Having said that, let’s take a look at the Knicks playoff history with their last championship, last NBA Finals appearance, and last playoff series win to really capture how long its been since New York has been atop the basketball world.

When was the last time the Knicks won the NBA Championship?

The Knicks last won a title in 1973 when Willis Reed led New York over the Los Angeles Lakers to a 4-1 series victory in the NBA Finals. It’s been legitimately 50 years since the team has won a championship, meaning that the basketball-rabid fanbase is ready to see the franchise’s fortunes start to turn all the way for the better.

When was the last time the Knicks made the NBA Finals?

It’s been quite a while since New York has even been in the Finals, much less won a title. In fact, more than two decades have passed since the team’s last appearance. The Knicks last made the NBA Finals back in 1999 when the Patrick Ewing-led team lost the series, 4-1, to Tim Duncan, David Robinson and the San Antonio Spurs.

When was the last time the Knicks won an NBA Playoff series?

While the franchise has clinched playoff berths in two of the past three seasons, the Knicks last won a playoff series all the way back in the 2013 postseason when they beat the Celtics (4-2) in the First Round. They went on to lose in the next round to the Pacers (4-2).
