Hey! Did you hear the breaking news on Tuesday? Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze has been offered the Florida Gators job. Yep. Less than two weeks after Florida decided Will Muschamp and his high-powered offensive attack (if you can’t pick up the sarcasm already, stop reading now) just weren’t the answer in Gainesville, Athletic Director Jeremy Foley has already decided that the Rebels head coach is his man and the dollar offer has already been extended.
Except, no, it probably wasn’t.
Actually, I would be willing to bet the amount of money that I just paid for the deck on the back of my house that no offer has been extended to Freeze, and they probably haven’t even talked on the telephone.
No, no. All of this on Tuesday comes down to the genius of one man…Mr. Jimmy Sexton.
Don’t know who Mr. Sexton is? Okay, that’s fine. Think the Jerry Maguire of college football.
There, now you know.
Basically, Sexton is the super agent for some of the biggest coaching names in college football and he has made a good portion of his money by dropping some of the juiciest rumors about coaches changing locations, which ultimately leads to the coach’s current school getting so nervous that they offer insane extensions; which means that Sexton wins out with his bank account no matter what.
Look, don’t hate, the man is good at his job, that’s what he does.
Remember Jimbo Fisher to Texas last year? Did Jimbo go to Texas? No. Did he get a raise from Florida State? Yes he did.
But the unfortunate part is that there were actually some people, who don’t pay attention to the great sport that is college football, that believed these rumors. Yes, they thought, that with Freeze just a few days from the biggest Egg Bowl of his life, that he was willingly talking to Florida, and they were so impressed that they basically gave the ol’ middle finger to all of the other potential candidates– the Jim McElwain’s, the Chad Morris’, the Jim Harbaugh’s and everyone else.
But, then you have the smart people that caught on pretty quickly:
Ok, this person was late to the party.
Mine too, Bandit. Mine, too.
Eh, I’d put Flair above Sexton, but that’s besides the point. Moving on…
THAT’S THE POINT!
Basically, the moral of the story here is that Florida did not offer Freeze the job.
However, eventually, if any of you are looking for a new profession, you could be the person that does this for Sexton and Freeze in about a month…
