Fantasy Baseball: Giants’ Pablo Sandoval value at all-time low

Now that we are in the middle of May, it often makes sense to find some good struggling guys that you can buy low on and reap the benefits of a second half surge.

I caution you that San Francisco Giants’ third baseman Pablo Sandoval is not one of those guys.

After an abysmal start to the 2014 season, Sandoval’s value is at an all-time low and sadly there are very few signs out there available to suggest that he will turn things around anytime soon.

Sandoval has gotten off to a terrible start this year batting only .212 with only a pair of homers in 164 plate appearances to go along with a mere 10 RBI.

After a nice day where Sandoval went 2-for-4 with two doubles in today’s game, there still isn’t much hope.

When we heard that Sandoval trimmed down in the offseason, many expected that to be a positive thing, but it needless to say the skinnier Sandoval is truly half the man he once was.

Sandoval is striking out at a career high 19.4 percent rate and his ISO has fallen to a career low .095.

In addition to his power outage, Sandoval has an awful 21.1 percent IFFB rate which means that he is simply not squaring up on the ball.

His ground ball rate of 45.7 percent is high but not too far off his career 43.3 percent mark, but the troubling sign is that his contact rate at 79.1 percent is also at a career low.

The only good news is that his BABIP at .254 is way off his career .312 mark and you would think that should come back to his career norm.

But at the end of the day if Sandoval doesn’t start making solid contact he could be in store for career lows across the board.

Do yourself a favor and stay away from the Panda as there looks to be no relief in sight.
