Well the holdout certainly didn’t last long between the Kansas City Chiefs and star running back Jamaal Charles. Just as everyone was getting set for yet another highly-publicized battle between a star player and an NFL organization just before the season was to start, the two sides struck a deal on Wednesday and Charles will now report to work.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

Of course, for the team to give Charles what he was looking for so quickly, it was widely assumed that he was well compensated for being one of the best overall backs in the league, and that’s exactly what the Chiefs did.

According to Ian Rapoport, the deal is worth $18.1 million in new money, and will make him one of the top five paid running backs in the entire NFL.

Exactly what he was looking for.

If anyone has earned to get paid like this, it’s been Charles over the past few seasons. He’s been the backbone of this offense and played a huge part in the team’s massive turnaround last season under Andy Reid that propelled them to a playoff appearance.

Last season, Charles rushed for 1,287 yards with 12 touchdowns.
