The Cleveland Browns quarterback position has been the subject of much conversation this offseason, but that conversation has seldom included former South Carolina QB Connor Shaw.

More from Cleveland Browns

With Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel, and to a much lesser extent Rex Grossman, getting all the attention, the undrafted Shaw has just gone along doing his thing, trying to learn his position and stick with the club.

In the end, Shaw didn’t do enough to make it onto the Browns’ 53-man roster. Aaron Wilson reports that Shaw will be cut by Cleveland when they announce their roster moves on Saturday.

There were some, perhaps including Shaw himself, who thought the rookie had a chance to win the #3 job over journeyman Rex Grossman. But the Browns have decided to either keep Grossman as the #3 or not have a #3 QB on the roster at all.

But it’s not over in Cleveland for Shaw. The Browns can still sign him back to the practice squad if he clears waivers, and for all I know that it is the plan for Mike Pettine and company.

Shaw may not be a big part of the future for Cleveland – that Manziel guy is still the main building block for the Browns – but he could yet have a place with the organization.

Who knows, maybe down the road when Brian Hoyer leaves it will end up being Johnny Football #1 and Connor Shaw backing him up. Or maybe Connor Shaw will end up working at a bank somewhere. Never can tell.
