Darren Sproles turned back the clock in a virtuoso Monday Night effort for the Philadelphia Eagles, carrying the team to a shocking victory on the road against the Indianapolis Colts. Starter LeSean McCoy could have pouted about losing reps to a backup who’s been more valuable than himself in the first two weeks. Instead McCoy seemed appreciative of the help.

“Without Sproles, we’d be in some trouble,” McCoy told reporters after the game, per Pro Football Talk. “I need to get my thing together.  I feel like I’m not playing to my level where I should be playing.  Tonight it was an average, above average game where he carried us again.”

Sproles finished the game with 7 receptions for 152 yards as well as four carries for 26 yards and a rushing touchdown. The versatile speedster showed once again why the Eagles got a steal when they gave up a 5th round pick for Sproles as he ripped off multiple big runs that set the Eagles up deep in the red zone several times.

McCoy meanwhile managed 79 yards on 20 rushing attempts, adding four catches for 23 yards. He also nabbed a rushing touchdown. He maintained that the competition can only be a good thing for him and the team.

“I don’t mind at all,” McCoy concluded, “and the other thing is I don’t feel as tired or as beat up.  I had about 20 carries, two passes, not too many carries, just enough to be effective.”
