A Google Glass user has been treated for addiction caused by the device, becoming the first known case since the product was made available.

The patient is a 31-year-old US Navy servicemen, and — according to The Guardian — suffered withdrawal symptoms when his Google Glass device was taken away. Using Google Glass 18 hours a day, the user also dreamt about the device, and has been treated for addiction after scientists diagnosed the condition.
Per The Guardian, the user only removed the device to wash and sleep, and felt irritable when the device was not in use. It took just two months before the patient begun dreaming as though he was wearing the Google Glass, seeing things through the small grey window of the device.
With people still failing to recognize internet and device addiction as a serious condition, Dr. Andrew Doan described the condition as similar to other addictions, which have now been recognized as real issues.
“People used to believe alcoholism wasn’t a problem – they blamed the person or the people around them,” Doan said. “It’s just going to take a while for us to realise that this is real.”
Described as Google Glass Withdrawal, the condition on the 31-year-old is not his first known addiction, after he was treated for alcoholism in September 2013. According to a conversation between the patient and Doan, his symptoms from Google Glass were far greater.
“He said the Google Glass withdrawal was greater than the alcohol withdrawal he was experiencing.”
Treated for 35 days, the patient reportedly did not touch his temple and his irritability decreased, per PBS.
