Nailing one of the most coveted interview targets on the market, NBC’s Matt Lauer will sit down with NFL running back Ray Rice on the Today show.

Ray Rice, the embattled star running back formerly of the Baltimore Ravens, will break his silence on the domestic abuse altercation that has him currently without a job.

As the media clamored for the first chance to speak publicly with the star, it appears that NBC and the Today Show has won the battle.

TMZ is reporting that Matt Lauer has booked Rice for a sit down on the Today show.

At this point, TMZ notes that it is not yet known if Janay Rice will be participating in the interview.

Since the video of Ray Rice and his then fiance, Janay Palmer, appeared online, both parties have remained out of the media and without further comment. The exclusive sit down with Matt Lauer signifies the first time the silence will be broken since the incident.

For Rice, this is an opportunity to change the narrative.

While he has been dominated thus far in the court of public opinion, Ray Rice, and potentially Janay, will be able to have their day to share what took place. Although it is evident what physically took place, there are still a lot of unanswered questions, and now Rice will get the chance to share.

The interview is a huge win for both NBC and the Today show as having such a coveted guest on the air immediately will provide a boost in ratings.

At this point, the episode is scheduled to run sometime between now and November 26.

With the NFL and Ray Rice having already given their statements in regards to the running back being reinstated to the league, it stands to reason that Rice could potentially be deemed an eligible free agent by the time the show airs.

Make sure to tune in for Lauer’s exclusive interview with Ray Rice when it hits the air.
