The agent of New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony refuted recent rumors that Anthony had requested a trade from the team.
Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks aren’t exactly having a Cinderella season. Not only is the team god awful, but it appears that the guys aren’t getting along. The obvious friction all over the organization led to rumors that Anthony is looking to get out of the Big Apple. Anthony’s agent, Leon Rose, told Frank Isola at the New York Daily News that the rumors are flat out untrue.
Carmelo's agent Leon Rose: "Carmelo, as always, is committed to the Knicks. There have never been discussions about trades....(continued)

Leon Rose continued:..."or wanting to leave New York. Any story, rumor, report to the contrary is utter nonsense."

Of course, that might just be the convenient line for now as trading Anthony wouldn’t be that easy for the Knicks. First, they have to find a willing partner, which means a team that sees itself as an NBA Finals contender. Then said partner would have to be able to pony up a king’s ransom for Melo in a trade, then pay him another king’s ransom against the luxury tax. That leaves precious few suitors able to do all of the above.
Still, if rumors persist it’s because the move makes sense. Carmelo Anthony is not a rebuild guy at this stage in his career, and he doesn’t appear interested in that role even if he is good enough to help a team. It could just be a matter of the Knicks eventually being willing to take less than face value to rid themselves of Anthony and gain some future assets for a rebuild.
For now anyways, the Knicks and Anthony will slog along in the league’s basement, but don’t be surprised if these rumors continue to swirl throughout the NBA season.
