Fox’s new hit show, Empire, is taking ratings by storm with a huge following not long after its release. However, one celebrity has already voiced his disapproval. NBA and Cleveland Cavaliers player, Iman Shumpert, has stated that he was completely blown away after seeing how close of a resemblance two of the characters have with Shumpert and his girlfriend Teyena Taylor, a singer.

In an interview given by Northeast Ohio Media on Thursday, Shumpert stated, “They’re using my girl’s character, her style, her look and she’s not getting anything for it.”

The two characters that he is referring to are Hakeem Lyon and Tiana Brown, played by Bryshere Gray and Serayah McNeill respectively. Shumpert is finding it hard to believe that the two characters just happened to turn out like this couple and share similar features out of a coincidence.

If you take a look at the show, you can see the two characters having a very close resemblance to Shumpert and Taylor, not just based on looks and fashion, but the two are even romantically involved in the show. Shumpert is only upset over the fact that the show didn’t come to them first before creating these two characters.

Shumpert has stated that he isn’t really that angry over it. He just noticed some similarities that were brought to his attention through his friends, family and fans. “Come on. That’s ridiculous. They never called us. We were blindsided. We found out by our family and fans when the show aired.”
