Royals pitching prospect Buddy Baumann loses a College World Series bet, pays up with a horrendous haircut.

Sometimes in gambling your lose your shirt, other times you lose your hair.

In case you missed it, the College World Series semifinals on Sunday provided fans with a battle between the University of Arkansas and Missouri State. Aside from the college players, families and fans, two Kansas City Royals prospects had a lot riding on the game.

Buddy Baumann, an alumnus of Missouri State, and teammate Brett Eibner, an alumnus of Arkansas, decided to place a bet on the outcome. Whichever player’s alma mater came out on the losing side would have to get a ridiculous haircut. If the loser refused, he would lose one eyebrow.

Teammates on the Royals’ Triple-A Omaha squad, Baumann and Eibner took the bet quite seriously, even taking the time to draft and sign a betting agreement.

Take a look at the very official agreement below. Not only is the legal language on point, they appointed a scribe and a witness. These two clearly value fair play. That or they do not trust each other one bit.

No handshake honors system here. Ultimately Arkansas landed a 3-2 Game 3 victory and Baumann had to pay up (or risk losing an eyebrow). The resultant haircut, described in the contract as “a party in the front, nothing in the back hairstyle with a mustache,” is a sight to behold.

And another photo for good measure.

If I were the Dayton Moore, GM of the Royals, I’d call Baumann up immediately just to see him make his major league debut with a ridiculous look like that.

At least Baumann will be able to hide it under a baseball cap.
