Alabama coach Nick Saban gets a new car and his players subsequently freak out.

Say what you will about Nick Saban, but the man knows how to choose a car.

Saban, head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide, arrived at practice on Wednesday in a ridiculous new ride – a Mercedes AMG GT S Coupe. Because if you’re going to buy a Mercedes, and you care about performance, you have to go AMG.

Saban’s players proceeded to freak out and post pictures of the car all over social media.

For those of you who don’t know, a whip is a car.

After all, Saban made $6.9 million in 2014 so his car should be pretty nice. That particular Mercedes model starts at $129,000 and we’re willing to bet that the highest-paid coach in college football threw in a few extras – a navigation system, perhaps. Saban does not seem like someone who settles for the minimum.

In fact, one player, defensive end Mekhi Brown, noted that Saban’s car reminded him of James Bond.

It’s nice to see that the James Bond franchise has stood the test of time. This is a college student, after all.

Either Saban is Bond or he’s the driver of the Formula 1 pace car. Take your pick. But when Saban inevitably gets half of his graduating seniors drafted in the NFL, they can buy a Mercedes of their own. Maybe even a fleet.

It does make us wonder, though, what did Bear Bryant drive?
