Who will win a football game between basketball schools in a baseball stadium?

Happy Holidays to all of you readers! You may be taking it easy, but there are bowl games to prepare for, so I am still at it! I still have nearly 30 picks to make to try and stay above .500. It could be a challenge with the way this bowl season has started!

In case you missed how the point scale works, here is a brief rundown:

5. A lock. I am comfortable making a sizable wager on this game.

4. Very confident. Not quite a lock, but I am comfortable making a decent sized wager on it.

3. Middle of the road. Good enough that I would make a small wager on it.

2. Could go either way. So much so that I wouldn’t bet on it.

1. Stay away from these.

Just in case you missed any:

Now, on to the New Era Pinstripe Bowl!

Indiana(-2.5) vs. Duke at New York, NY(3):

Indiana(6-6, 2-6):

Wins: vs. Southern Illinois(48-47), vs. Florida International(36-22), vs. Western Kentucky(38-35), at Wake Forest(31-24), at Maryland(47-28), at Purdue(54-36)

Losses: vs. Ohio State(27-34), at Penn State(7-29), vs. Rutgers(52-55), at Michigan State(26-52), vs. Iowa(27-35), vs. Michigan(41-48)

Record vs. bowl teams: 1-5

Duke(7-5, 4-4):

Wins: at Tulane(37-7), vs. North Carolina Central(55-0), vs. Georgia Tech(34-20), vs. Boston College(9-7), at Army(44-3), at Virginia Tech(45-43), at Wake Forest(27-21)

Losses: vs. Northwestern(10-19), vs. Miami(FL)(27-30), at North Carolina(31-66), vs. Pittsburgh(13-31), at Virginia(34-42)

Record vs. bowl teams: 1-4

Indiana’s defense left a lot to be desired. They gave up more than 20 points in every game, including against 1-AA Southern Illinois. That said, if the Hoosiers had stayed at full strength all season, you can argue that they would have beaten Ohio State, Rutgers, and Michigan. They may be full strength for the bowl game, but the school is keeping the status of RB Jordan Howard close to the vest. If he can’t play, they still have a suitable replacement in Devine Redding. This offense was dominant in every game except for the Penn State game.

Duke is a different team with a healthy Thomas Sirk, which they will have for this game. Both of these teams have significant offensive talent, but the Blue Devils are miles ahead of the Hoosiers defensively. Then again, the closest offense Duke faced style wise to Indiana was North Carolina, and that did not end well.

Can Duke’s defense play well enough to keep Indiana under wraps? I have my doubts, but Indiana couldn’t stop anyone this year. This game could have a score that looks like a basketball score. If that happens, it clearly favors Indiana.

My pick: Indiana
