Here are the team capsules and the pick against the spread for the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl!

Bowl season is in full swing, with roughly a quarter of the games done. That still leaves me more than 30 picks to try and stay above .500. It could be a challenge with the way this bowl season has started!

In case you missed how the point scale works, here is a brief rundown:

5. A lock. I am comfortable making a sizable wager on this game.

4. Very confident. Not quite a lock, but I am comfortable making a decent sized wager on it.

3. Middle of the road. Good enough that I would make a small wager on it.

2. Could go either way. So much so that I wouldn’t bet on it.

1. Stay away from these.

Just in case you missed any:

Gunnar Kiel is out for the bowl game, which puts true freshman Hayden Moore front and center for the bowl game. Lest you think he is just some fresh-faced kid, remember that Moore owns the Cincinnati school record for passing yards in a game when he lit up Memphis for 557 yards earlier this season. The Bearcats also have three running backs that they use heavily, so Moore wont have to carry the load against this tough Aztec defense.

If you have read any of my stuff before, you know how I feel about San Diego State running back Donnel Pumphrey. He has a pro future. “Backup” Chase Price is nearly as good as Pumphrey, and usually sees at least 15 touches per game. The Aztecs will run you into the ground if given the chance, and Cincinnati’s run defense has been below average for much of the season. The Aztecs have kept the status of quarterback Maxwell Smith under wraps. His experience would be a big boost for the Aztecs.

The Bearcats are a little thin at quarterback, but they can run the ball with San Diego State if they have to. They may have to, which is not good for Cincinnati. San Diego State’s defense is in the top five in the nation. San Diego State has one ten in a row since a disappointing September, and have only given up more than 20 points once since then. Cincinnati is going to have their hands full.

My pick: San Diego State
