Odds and prediction for the 2015 Marmot Boca Raton Bowl!

Last weekend saw the opening of Bowl season, and we were treated to some very interesting games, including something called the “Holy War” in Sin City on a Saturday night. How can you go wrong with that? Bowl season means that I am back with more picks against the spread!

In case you missed how the point scale works, here is a brief rundown:

5. A lock. I am comfortable making a sizable wager on this game.

4. Very confident. Not quite a lock, but I am comfortable making a decent sized wager on it.

3. Middle of the road. Good enough that I would make a small wager on it.

2. Could go either way. So much so that I wouldn’t bet on it.

1. Stay away from these.

Take note that any games that involve 1-AA teams will NOT be picked. That means I will be staying away from the Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl. I haven’t paid much attention to FCS schools this year. It wont do anyone any good for me to make only a slightly educated guess on the game.

Just in case you missed any:

Now, on to the Marmot Boca Raton Bowl!

Toledo vs. (24)Temple(-2.5) at Boca Raton, FL(3):

Toledo(9-2, 6-2):

Wins: at Arkansas(16-12), vs. Iowa State(30-23), vs. Arkansas State(37-7), at Ball State(24-10), vs. Kent State(38-7), vs. Eastern Michigan(63-20), at Massachusetts(51-35), at Central Michigan(28-23), at Bowling Green(44-28)

Losses: vs. Northern Illinois(27-32), vs. Western Michigan(30-35)

Record vs. bowl teams: 4-2

Temple(10-3, 8-2):

Wins: vs. Penn State(27-10), at Cincinnati(34-26), at Massachusetts(25-23), at Charlotte(37-3), vs. Tulane(49-10), vs. Central Florida(30-16), at SMU(60-40), vs. Memphis(31-12), vs. Connecticut(27-3)

Losses: vs. Notre Dame(20-24), at South Florida(23-44), at Houston(13-24)

Record vs. bowl teams: 4-3

Toledo was thought to be the Group of Five team that would crash the New Year’s Six after their season opening upset of Arkansas (their opener against Stony Brook was postponed and never rescheduled). Losses to Northern Illinois and Western Michigan, at home no less, led to a lesser bowl. That is not to say this wont be a great game. The Boca Raton bowl has to be ecstatic over the teams they got.

Temple dominated Penn State, took Notre Dame to the wire, and dominated Memphis before losing to Houston in the American Championship Game and missing out on a New Year’s Six bowl. The Owls rely heavily on defense and a big workload for running back Jahad Thomas.

This should be a great game. Both teams like to play defense and run the ball. Toledo is a better team with Kareem Hunt back. All of the experience the other backs gained with Hunt out have helped the team out quite a bit. Toledo beat an Arkansas team with a really good defense, and they dominated a good Arkansas State team. Does that stack up to what Temple did? Not quite, but this is going to be a very close game.

My pick: Temple
