Robert Lewandowski scored his 19th league goal of the season on Sunday, with his brace against Hoffenheim.

With Borussia Dortmund winning 2-0 on Saturday against Ingolstadt, Bayern Munich needed a victory against Hoffenheim to restore their eight point lead atop the Bundesliga table. The Bavarian giants were coming into the match having won three straight league matches on Sunday, and were hoping to make it four at the Allianz Arena.

To nobody’s surprise, it was the club’s star striker, Robert Lewandowski, to open the scoring, when he got on the end of a fantastic ball from Douglas Costa. The score gave Lewandowski his 18th goal in 18 Bundesliga matches, and put his side up 1-0 in the 32nd minute.

A one-goal lead is never a comfortable one though, and Lewandowski was on the hunt to find the back of the net again. With his club still up, 1-0, the 27-year-old put the game to bed when he doubled his side’s lead in the 64th minute. The striker once again took advantage of a great ball from one of his teammates, though this time it was Phillip Lahm who delivered the through ball and picked up the assist.

The Polish international would be the only player to score in the match, with Bayern Munich ultimately winning the game 2-0. They now sit with an incredible 52 points from 19 matches atop the Bundesliga table, having won 17 games already. They will take on Bayer Leverkusen next in a mouth-watering tilt between two of the league’s most exciting teams.
