With the NFL Draft just around the corner, here is a look at some of the best draft picks in Houston Texans history.

Even for a franchise as young as the Houston Texans, the NFL Draft has provided a handful of memorable moments.

Not all of these moments are remembered for the right reasons. There were picks such as former LSU defensive end Sam Montgomery, who was selected by Houston in the third round of the 2013 draft, only to be released mid-season after making more headlines off the field than on it. Montgomery has yet to appear on an NFL stat sheet.

Then there are players like David Carr, the franchise’s first-ever draft pick, whose shortcomings are not entirely of their doing. Selected No. 1 overall in 2002, Carr went from a promising young quarterback to a career backup after being shellshocked from taking a record-setting amount of sacks early in his career.

But draft day failures are not what this list is about. For now, we are going to take a look at the selections that stand out for positive reasons.

As a franchise that is just 14 years old, the Texans have yet to produce their first Pro Football Hall of Famer. That could be changing in the near future, though. One former wide receiver is wrapping up one of the most prolific careers that the position has ever seen, while a current star has established himself as arguably the most dominant defensive player of his era.

With the NFL Draft just weeks away, here is a look at the top-five draft picks in Houston Texans history.
