DFS Fantasy Football Picks:Â Week 1 DFS Bargain Bin
Similarly to baseball, finding cheaper value players can be ever so critical to the success of your lineup. In order to unlock the studs of the slate, you’ll need to find the bargain players that provide important salary relief. Here are my top bargain plays for week 1 on both DraftKings and Fanduel. (Bargains will be defined as below the median average salary for a position)
Dak Prescott – DAL (QB) – FD $5,000
Dak Prescott will fall in the category of the absolute chalk this week. I touched on Dak and his preseason play in my preseason takeaways, but he simply too cheap this week. He’ll be playing at home, in a spot where the Cowboys are favored. His scrambling ability is what ensures his safety and provides him with a suitable floor projection. I’ll be all over Dak in cash, but will most likely have less exposure to him in GPP’s, relative to the field. This game’s pace will be sluggish and Dallas knows that they’ll have to methodically run the ball in order to hide their mediocre defense and ease in their rookie quarterback.
James White – NE (RB) – FD $4,900
When the news of Dion Lewis‘s injury was released, James White immediately popped up as a valuable cheap option for week one. Don’t bet on White getting a ton of touches, but he could see anywhere from 5 to 8 targets. The Patriots already love using the RB in a passing role and with Garoppolo under center, I think this game could become filled with check downs.
Spencer Ware – KC (RB) – FD $5,400
Similarly to White, Ware’s value shot up like a Rocket with the news of Jamaal Charles’ injury being released. Kansas city will face the Chargers at home in a game where they’re favored by 6.5 points. Ware looked great in the preseason and this game script is conducive to a high running back workload. Charcandrick West has returned to practice after his elbow injury, but I don’t think his presence shouldn’t cut too deep into Ware’s usage. If West was the goal line back, I’d be a bit more worried, but I think Ware should eat vs. this Charger defense.
Marvin Jones – DET (WR) – FD $5,500
Indy’s secondary has been absolutely decimated by injuries and may, arguably, be running out one of the worst defenses you’ll see this week. In a game that could turn into a shootout, Marvin Jones is glaringly under priced. Stafford should be forced to throw the ball if the Lions are behind and I think Jones should see a sufficient amount of targets.

DraftKings Specific
Tajae Sharp – TEN (WR) – DK $3,000
I raved about sharp in my preseason takeaways, and his pricing is way off, given his projection and assumed usage. Tajae Sharp will run opposite of Rishard Matthews in the Titans offense. While the Titans plan to pound the rock with DeMarco Murray, Sharp only needs to see a handful of targets to reach value. He’s the minimum price on DraftKings.
Rishard Matthews – TEN (WR) – DK $3,300
It’s the same story for Matthews as it was for Sharp. While the game script won’t be a perfect fit for wide receivers, Matthews is so cheap that only a few targets could have him hitting value. I like Sharp more, as he’s cheaper and has more big play potential, but if you’re spending up at other areas, Matthews should be considered.

LeGarrette Blount – NE (RB) – DK $3,700
This pick all comes down to how you view this Patriots vs. Cardinals game going. If you think the Pats take this game in Arizona, then you should most definitely consider Blount on DraftKings. I won’t have great exposure to him, but he should see any goal line work and if you think the Pats can put points up on Arizona, then you’d have to think that Blount would be a recipient. Again, I don’t love the play but I wouldn’t be shocked if Blount struggled rushing and still picked up a touchdown.
Dwayne Allen – IND (TE) – DK $3,200
I love Allen this week in a game that has a real shot to be a shootout. Allen is only $3,200 and with the departure of Fleener, he’ll be getting most of the tight end usage. Tight end tend to be a more volatile position so I wouldn’t recommend going all in on Allen, but if you’re like me, and think Luck has a huge bounce back year, Allen should be considered.
Fanduel Specific
Coby Fleener – NO (TE) – FD $5,400
The Saints are currently projected to score 26.8 points and Coby Fleener could see some usage in his new offense. It has been reported that he’s still learning the playbook and scheme, but in the nine snaps that Brees played in the final preseason game, Fleener was on the field for seven of them. This game also has some shootout potential and we know that Brees’ likes to lean on his tight ends. It will be interesting to see who the Saints turn to in the red zone. Fleener is under priced enough that he should reach value without it, but if he gets any red zone looks at all, he could be up for a big day. (Monitor any news that comes out regarding him knowing the offense and his expected role)
