Polish up those mobility skills, because you’ll need them in Titanfall 2’s upcoming game mode.

Respawn has announced new details regarding its upcoming free game mode Live Fire.

Live Fire will be a 6v6, pilot only elimination mode, with rounds only lasting one minute. Players are tasked with quickly eliminating the opposing team and taking control of a neutral flag. Whichever side has control of the flag at the end of the round wins, regardless of how many players have been eliminated.

Two brand new maps will be released along with Live Fire: Stacks and Meadow. These maps have been specifically designed for the mode and will only be playable during Live Fire. According to Titanfall 2‘s website, the maps are “tight, enclosed death boxes.” Fun.

More information about the development behind Live Fire was revealed today via the mode’s designer Griffin Dean. A common theme throughout his comments revolve around the fact that the mode is gripping and fast-paced.

“For me, Live Fire is like an espresso shot: It gets my heart pounding,” says Dean in the update on Titanfall 2‘s website. “The rounds come right down to the wire. It’s always anyone’s game.”

Dean also discusses how the mode drew inspiration from paintball. “Live Fire was inspired by speedball matches in paintball. We wanted to capture the spirit of these lightning-fast competitive matches and give it a Titanfall twist.”

Additionally, the game mode will rely heavily on teamwork. Says Dean, “It’s best to have a game plan. You know where your enemy is coming from and you must utilize your abilities and mobility to outplay them.”

Dean also mentions future content updates, calling the stuff coming “a doozy.” Players can expect new Prime Titans, purchasable cosmetic items and tweaks in balancing. Perhaps most exciting of all is the fact that a popular old map in the Titanfall world will be coming back to Titanfall 2: Colony.
