Last year, Kevin Durant’s life brought bonus attention to the world of cupcakes. This year, he’s attaching the food to his feet.

Who remembers last year? I don’t. However, some people do. One of the things that happened in that year was a semi-feud-type-thing between Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.

This feud-y whatchamacallit went back to the time they played on the same basketball team together in the National Basketball Association. Reportedly, they would refer to other players who were soft as “cupcakes.” Allegedly, Westbrook was accusing Durant of being soft when he posted a picture of cupcakes to his Instagram account after Durant left. Presumably, this has something to do with the design choice in Kevin Durant’s brand new footwear.

If Durant has made any point clear since moving to the Golden State Warriors it’s that he doesn’t care what people think. To prove how little other peoples’ opinions cross his mind, he’s decided to market the thing they said. Because that makes sense on some level I guess. I don’t know. My shoe deals have never been lucrative or existant.

Anyways, look at the shoe. Look at it.

That’s fine. I like cupcakes. They taste nice when I eat them.

I like sneakers. They protect my feet from pointy ground and sunburn.

I also like people leaning in to insults. It takes a healthy measure of self-worth to manage oneself that way.

It’s hard to say that’s exactly what Durant is doing here. The Durant-Westbrook connect the dots picture has, maybe, four dots on it. We’re kind of left to fill in the rest of the picture with our imagination. If you think Durant is sensitive, the picture is . If you think he’s using this as rage to fuel him, the picture is . Or If you think this is just a marketing strategy that he maybe had 20-30% input on, then it’s more like .

Whatever the motivation behind the shoe, I like the way it looks. It does look like a cupcake. I need to know if it tastes like one.
