The playoff field is set for ELEAGUE Major Boston, with eight teams remaining for the final New Champions phase, and a big name joining the analyst desk.

Turner and IMG’s ELEAGUE Major Boston has narrowed its field down to the final eight Counter-Strike: Global Offensive teams ahead of next weekend’s playoffs and made some big additions to its talent pool for the final round.

Titled The New Champions, the third and last cycle of competition will take place Jan. 26-28 at the Agganis Arena in Boston, with three rounds of playoffs determining which CS: GO team takes the first Major title of the year.

Previous ELEAGUE Major champions Astralis and reigning Major champions Gambit were both eliminated during Monday’s action, meaning that we will indeed have a new champion after the Grand Final on Jan. 28.

For the last and largest part of the competition, ELEAGUE has brought in two new members of the talent team to make things even more interesting.

Fan favorite player Sean “seangares” Gares, whose Misfits were eliminated during the New Challengers phase (formerly known as the Major qualifier), will join the ELEAGUE analyst desk for the New Champions round.

It will be his ELEAGUE debut as an analyst, but he’s played in several of the brand’s events as the in-game leader for Misfits and Echo Fox:

Alex “Goldenboy” Mendez, who will be known to ELEAGUE fans for his work on the brand’s Rocket League tournament last year, is going to serve as the stage host for ELEAGUE Major Boston.

We now also know a few exciting details about what’s actually going to go down at the Agganis Arena. In addition to the actual Counter-Strike competition, we’ll see the brand’s first showmatch, called the “Pro-Am Challenge.”

Two of the Major casters will face off with teams composed of other broadcast talent and select professional players in a best-of-one (BO1) exhibition match. Maybe we’ll finally get that HenryG vs. Sadokist duel? Or a revenge match between Team Bardolph and Team DDK?

During the ELEAGUE Major Boston Grand Final, fans will also get a preview of TBS’s new TV docu-series, which will follow five of the Counter-Strike teams through their Boston journey. The series debuts Friday, Feb. 9 on TBS, and is the only TV coverage for this Major; the playoffs themselves will stay exclusive to Twitch.

The first three quarterfinals will stream Jan. 26 starting at 10:00 a.m. ET, with the last quarterfinal matchup and the semifinals on Jan. 27 at 10:00 a.m. ET. The Grand Final, showmatch and preview all take place on Jan. 28, which starts at the later time of noon ET. Mark your calendars accordingly to find out who are the new Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Major champions!
