DFS GOLF Picks: St. Jude Classic

Before diving into the analysis of the links, I’d like to give a special thanks to Brian Tulloch, Kyle Franzoni, and Matt Valdovinos for helping me join the Fantasy CPR Team. I am excited to get working and ready to help FanSided readers win some money with my DFS GOLF picks.

The FedEx St. Jude Classic, scheduled to begin on Thursday June 7th, is sure to be one of the more interesting tournaments of the golf year. This is especially true for DFS PGA diehards. With names like Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler, and Justin Rose off of this weekends slate, we are left with very little room for error. This could be an opportunity for lesser known pros to make a name for themselves, as the majority of the elite take a week off to rest and practice for the US Open.

The best advice I could give for this week’s slate is to keep it simple. Do not over complicate your budget and DO NOT be afraid to pay for the elite talent at the top of the queue. Build around your studs. You could quite possibly hit a Home Run without swinging for the fences this week.

The ideal Fanduel lineup for this tournament begins with one of the more “world-class” talents and will be supported by players who have killed the SG: Approach portion of their game this season. It is important to attack each course from a different statistical advantage. Especially when the talent is as thin as it is now.

Lets get into this week’s lineup for the St. Jude Classic.

DFS GOLF – OB’s Lineup

Dustin Johnson

I feel we need to first address the elephant in the room. This pick shouldn’t be a surprise for any avid golf fan. DJ is the most polarizing player in this entire slate. Being the #2 golfer in the entire world should speak for itself as to why I selected him this week. I prefer to spend the highest price point (FD $12,900) on someone I know will perform well. He could very-well steal this tournament giving him some great momentum heading into the US Open. I prefer the young DJ over Koepka, Stenson, and Mickelson this week. However, if you must play one of the other three, pick Koepka.

Daniel Berger

Berger has won this tournament the past two years and has no reason not to give it a good run again. With stellar performances last year and the year prior, expect Berger to bring his best stuff as he searches for a rare three-peat. Will he land the hat-trick? I don’t believe so. But he’s shown his worth before, so I believe his floor this weekend makes him a valuable pick at (FD $11,800).

Scott Piercy

This pick is more statistic than talent based. While Piercy has shown some flashes of greatness at tournaments like the Zurich Classic and Careerbuilder Challenge, he has been impeccable in his approach to the green. He currently leads the entire tour in shots gained: approach to the green. That will be a key factor in his performance at TPC Southwind. I believe he is going to have a performance to remember and places T12 this weekend, certainly meeting his price at (FD $9,400)

Chez Reavie

What else is there to say? It’s Chez! He is perfectly priced at (FD $9,200) and is coming off of a rather poor performance at the Fort Worth Invitational but is due for a bounce-back campaign. What better time than right before the US Open? For a true pro’s pro, Chez is going to return value at his price and will be a solid play. He makes his cuts (13/16) and will help give your lineup stability. This is a value, take the cheap baseline and enjoy when he over-performs his tag.

CT Pan

Pan has been phenomenal over his past three outings and has no reason to stop killing it. He is hitting a very nice stride and will be in most of my lineups as a player who is cheap and in great form as of right now. Take advantage of the hot-streak and throw him in as an outstanding young golfer, who has been improving his game significantly. The (FD $8,600) Taiwanese Pro will at bare minimum make his cut and place T30.

Brian Stuard

Stuard hasn’t had a truly stellar performance in quite some time. This does concern me but his last four performances have progressively grown to produce better and better outcomes. His putting has been saving him, I feel if he can improve his game heading towards the green, he can give you a fantastic performance for his value of (FD $8,100).
