It wasn’t a brand new contract from the Patriots like he wanted, but at least Rob Gronkowski has a chance to earn more money this year.

The New England Patriots may have finally solved the problem behind the offseason drama that surrounded their superstar tight end Rob Gronkowski.

It might not have been the exact deal Gronkowski wanted, but it should be good enough for now. With two years remaining on his contract, he’ll be getting a little extra money.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Patriots added a potential $4.3 million to his contract this year; $1 million in per game bonuses and $3.3 million in incentives.

Essentially, Gronkowski will have to earn his extra money on the field, but that shouldn’t be a problem considering he’s the most dominant tight end in the NFL, possibly of all time, and he has the greatest quarterback of all time in Tom Brady slinging passes to him.

It hasn’t been a secret that Gronkowski has been trying to get a new deal out of the Patriots, which most likely was one of the main causes of the offseason drama that he was wrapped up in.

After New England lost Super Bowl LII, there were all kinds of rumors that Gronkowski was thinking about retirement at the age of 28. But the rumors went beyond just the possibility of retirement.

Apparently, he was considering stepping away from football to pursue an acting career in Hollywood or maybe even a career as a professional wrestler in WWE.

It wasn’t until midway through the summer that Gronkowski finally contacted head coach Bill Belichick to confirm that he’d be playing in 2018.

He’s under contract with the Patriots for the 2018 and 2019 seasons and then once that wraps up, it’s hard to tell what Gronkowski’s future will hold.

But for the time being, Gronkowski’s future in New England should be secure. Until his contract expires, hopefully there will be no more rumors about leaving for the WWE, or whatever other ideas he has in mind.
