It’s safe to say that Green Bay Packers fans are a little excited that their team finally gave head coach Mike McCarthy the boot.

It seemed like it was a long time coming for Mike McCarthy to receive his pink slip, but the Green Bay Packers finally decided to pull the trigger on Sunday.

McCarthy was officially canned after Green Bay dropped yet another game to fall to 4-7-1 on the season. Despite the fact that the 2018 Packers haven’t been very good, they had no business losing to the Arizona Cardinals, led by rookie quarterback Josh Rosen, at Lambeau Field in snowy temperatures.

But, Zane Gonzalez kicked a 44-yard field goal with 1:41 remaining to give the Cardinals a 20-17 lead, and they held on to stun the struggling Packers in front of their home fans and essentially put an end to Green Bay’s season.

That was when the Packers officially decided to call it quits on the McCarty tenure after 13 seasons, which included a Super Bowl championship in 2010. Under McCarthy, Green Bay went 125-77-2.

Despite much success during the McCarthy era, Green Bay fans have grown increasingly frustrated with him over the last few seasons. When the Packers officially made the announcement on Twitter, several fans didn’t hold back in sharing how joyful they felt about the news.

Here are a few bits and pieces from the Twitter frenzy…

Meanwhile, the Packers have named Joe Philbin as interim head coach, and he will finish out the 2018 season.

As for McCarthy, we don’t know what the immediate future will hold. But given his resume, it shouldn’t take him long to find another head coaching job in the NFL.
