The Pitt Panthers are traveling all the way out to El Paso, Texas. Stanford is too, technically, but it’s a much shorter trip for the Cardinal. Here’s what you need to know about the 2018 Sun Bowl.

Stanford is going to be without star running back Bryce Love yet again. Love has been dinged up and dealing with injuries all season, so it makes sense for him to miss the Sun Bowl. And at this point, the Stanford Cardinal are used to it, so preparing for the 2018 Hyundai Sun Bowl without Love shouldn’t be too much of an issue for them.

But still, one of the most talented running backs in college football won’t be playing during the bowl season, and that’s a bummer, but quarterback K.J. Costello has been more than enough to help compensate for Love being out. Costello throwing for 3,435 yards and 29 touchdowns while only having 11 interceptions this season has certainly helped coach David Shaw out this year.

The Pitt Panthers don’t have a star quarterback the way that the Stanford Cardinal do with Costello, but they do have a couple of running backs that can do plenty of damage. Qadree Ollison has 1,190 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns while gaining 6.3 yards per carry. Fellow running back Darrin Hall is right there with Ollison having run for 1,021 yards and nine touchdowns on 7.5 yards per carry.

Although the Cardinal are vulnerable on defense through the air, Stanford only gives up 140.9 rushing yards per game, so it’ll be intriguing to see how Pitt is able to attack with Ollison and Hall in the Sun Bowl.
